IN WHAT MEASURE DOTH DESCENT BEFALL…

In what measure doth descent befall,

Whereby the flesh unmarred, yet ego taints?

For all mine essence lies within her thrall,

Mine mirth, mine mood, mine sorrow it paints.

If perchance this day I take a spill,

From whence I slid, lost to earthly realm,

Lackluster clutch of failure doth instill,

My plight affixed, bound to that treacherous helm.

Should I succumb to plunge from lofty grace,

Perchance to plummet yet again anon,

Thus failure’s sting doth cast its fateful trace,

An endless cycle whence I’m ever drawn.

Thus doth this riddle of descent unveil,

The depths of failure’s grip that doth prevail.
